I Actually Used This To Fix My Health
Before we get started today, I’m going to give a quick personal ad that I think can help you all as much as it helped me. More of my friends tried it and we all saw cheap results and better care than we get from our traditional doctors. I know for some of you this will be way more helpful than another AI news ad or some playlist thing, so if you haven’t been feeling right, I have been shocked how much this has helped my friends and me.
How to dodge copyright detection for music marketing
By request, here's how I use copyrighted material in things I want to use it for. This is for educational purposes only. Copyright is mostly good. Fair use is great. The problem is the detection algos. Even when something falls under fair use, Content ID will still flag it and make it so you can't use it.
I'm not encouraging you to steal people's content. Don't take a music video and post it on your own account. What I'm showing you is what people do every day in music marketing — using a news clip in a music video and getting away with it. You've seen this done hundreds of times and probably never noticed. After this, you'll start noticing it everywhere.
Nothing here is something I invented. I learned all of it from hundreds of other people doing it before me. I'm just showing you the tools and how the sausage gets made.
The capture stack
Downie is the first tool, $19.99. Mac only. PC people, life ain't fair. The main thing it solves is downloading off platforms like TikTok without the giant watermark stamped on top. Most free downloaders bury you with a watermark, and the workarounds all lower the quality unless you pay. Downie pulls down what's basically the source file the person uploaded.
On YouTube specifically, Downie is in a constant arms race. YouTube is actively trying to stop scraping (largely because of AI), and Downie keeps finding new ways around it. It works most of the time, but it's a moving target.
CleanShot is the screen recorder, $29 one-time. It records video, makes GIFs, lets you grab a part of the screen, all of it. The reliable trick when nothing else works is the oldest one in the book: clean your phone screen, mount it on a tripod, point it at your monitor at 1:1, and record what plays.
For clean audio, I use Audio Hijack, $70. It captures system audio at high quality, records the two ends of a meeting on separate tracks, grabs whatever's playing through your DAW, and leaves the mic rolling even when you're not actively recording. One of the great tricks is to do a screen recording of copyrighted material at the same time you're capturing the audio through Audio Hijack, then sync them later for higher quality.
Permute is the GOAT file converter, $7. Throw any file in, and it converts to any format. I always tell clients getting into this world to buy Downie and Permute together for $27, because if you use Permute even a little, you'll be thankful. Just converting WAVs to MP3s, it's the fastest, highest-quality thing.
Setapp is a $9.99/month subscription that bundles a ton of these tools, including Downie and CleanShot. Worth it if you want the bundle.
For movie clipping, people go to torrents. Search "best torrent site [current year]" and you'll find current lists. Most people use Transmission as the app. I don't condone it. I'm telling you how the sausage gets made.
